About Julienne Beasley
Julienne has long had a passion for art but it was only when she inadvertently attended watercolour classes with her close friend that she began to realize her dream of creating with form and colour. Classes consisted of much hilarity with some disastrous results but eventually she began to understand how to handle the medium. Enjoyment continues to be high on the list of essential criteria for a successful work. Julienne is often astonished by a simple line or shape that catches her eye. Colour mixing intrigues her and she takes pleasure in having a messy palette that produces original hues of amazing clarity. Progression in her art is important to Julienne and she will eagerly attempt new ideas and techniques - which occasionally work. She has a love of animals which is reflected in much of her art and is a fan of a bit of quirk.
Growing up in Adelaide, Julienne had a delightfully wild childhood and continues to be inspired by her mother, Joan, and by her amazing brother, Michael. The harsh SA environment has produced in Julienne an appreciation of adversity which comes through in her art and accounts for her preference for strong images.
Julienne has attended workshops with John Lovett, a most encouraging teacher who inspires others to experiment with colour and style, enabling the fun to continue. She is also acutely interested in life drawing and has participated in workshops with Geoff Dupree, known for his supervision of Masters and Doctorial researchers in Fine Arts at Monash.
Exhibiting at the Deniliquin Rotary Art Exhibition in 2010 resulted in a Highly Commended award for her work titled ‘Eddie the Emu’. Also in 2010, Julienne achieved 2nd place (Watercolour) at the Maldon Art Show for ‘Koala Dreaming’ followed by a second place for ‘Claire forgot to tell Grace about the ice’ at the Kangaroo Flat art show.
Recently a sponsors award and prize was received from Kyneton Art Show for 'Yellow is my Favourite Colour'
A six week exhibition of Julienne's work, titled 'In Your Face', was held at Dig Cafe, Newstead during February and March 2011
